First UK timber frame BIM library now launched

Last month saw the launch of Stewart Milne Timber Systems BIM library and today we’d like to take a moment to tell you a little more about the company and what is now available to download here on bimstore.

Stewart Milne Timber Systems is the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of precision engineered timber system solutions. With over 40 years’ experience, they specialise in offsite construction for a number of sectors including private housing, affordable housing, student accommodation, medical facilities, hotels, and education. Their market-leading build systems are precision-engineered and offer guaranteed quality with assured performance. They work closely with architects, surveyors and design teams to deliver the noticeable benefits of timber frame off-site construction for their clients’ projects.

Following a research project, carried out with support from the CITB, Stewart Milne Timber Systems have recently launched the UK’s first timber frame BIM library which is now openly available to the construction industry here on bimstore. This was part of a 12-month project looking at the BIM readiness of small to medium builders. As part of the project, Stewart Milne Timber Systems carried out a survey of their supply chain, the results of which highlighted the work that still needs to be done.

Stewart Dalgarno, director of product development at Stewart Milne Group, said: “Part of the challenge of bringing BIM into mainstream construction practice is a lack of available products or systems in an accessible, usable format for clients, designers and construction professional to use."

Stewart Milne Timber Systems worked closely with bimstore to develop their BIM library which features over 102 of their timber frame products; including walls, floors and roof products – all available to download as Revit BIM components.

The use of the library will reduce lead-in time on a timber frame project by as much as a month, by removing the need for a three-stage ‘back and forth’ design process between architects and Stewart Milne Timber Systems’ design team. Instead, accurate 3D models will be available immediately after using the BIM library. To find out more about Stewart Milne Timber Systems why not visit their website, or to see their full range of available BIM objects visit their manufacturer profile page right here on bimstore now!About bimstore: bimstore is the UK’s original BIM object library.
