BIM and the Francis Crick Institute
Here at bimstore we love to celebrate the successes of our manufacturers.
Today we want to tell you a bit about a fantastic, innovative development in the heart of London -which leading supplier of door solutions, Dortek, have been involved with. With over 45 years of specialist research and manufacture, Dortek have produced and installed more than 200,000 door sets for clients in 40 countries and during 2012 alone, they completed projects in over 150 hospitals in the UK.
The Francis Crick Institute is a brand new biomedical research facility which forms a key part of a plan to consolidate the reputation of British medical research - a world-class institute will create a unique environment equipped with cutting edge technology to encourage collaboration and a multidisciplinary approach. This 12-storey building has been described as one of the UK’s most advanced BIM implementations to date – requiring each manufacturer to work with the architect to coordinate more than 500 models from at least 10 different software authoring tools.
Global leaders Dortek designed and installed more than 500 bespoke hygienic doors and automation systems throughout the facility. Speaking about the project, Paul Coley, Dortek’s Specification Manager in the UK explains “Francis Crick remains one of our largest and most innovative projects to date. The project showed the potential BIM has for enabling greater collaborative working and design coordination throughout the construction process. As an early adopter of BIM we remain dedicated to supporting the drive towards BIM based design”. To read more about the project, head over to the Dortek website.
