Manufacturers visit bimstore for a client update & learn about future developments

It was an extremely busy week last week at bimstore what with new manufacturers joining us and content updates galore! Through this busy period we also found the time to play host to over fifteen of our fantastic bimstore manufacturers at a special workshop at bimstore HQ in Newcastle upon Tyne.

First up was CEO Rob Charlton who shared insights into how Space Group (our parent company) has progressed since the last client update back in the summer of 2014. Rob explained how this would progress would positively impact on the distribution and evolution of bimstore manufacturers’ content. There was also opportunity for our manufacturers to share their own experiences of the industry.

Next we heard from Kris Atkinson, bimstore’s Head of Content. Kris spoke about how bimstore have delivered on their promises and talked about our new and improved website and its background functionality as well the great new apps, bimstore Eye and Specifi. Our manufacturers have been particularly impressed with Specifi, which is essentially the tech equivalent to a product library. The app allows users to search and download installation guides, maintenance information, product brochures and technical data sheets. Over 50% of bimstore searches are carried out on a mobile device so it was essential that we provided this functionality for our users.

A short update followed about the plans in progress for bimstore Australia. This was the perfect opportunity to introduce our manufacturers to the business development, and they were also introduced to Ermintrude’s Aussie mate, Kenny the Kangaroo. More news on an official launch for this will be announced in due course. Watch this space!

Finally we heard from Adam Ward, Technology Director at BIM.Technologies and one of bimstore’s Founders. He explained the government-backed BIM Toolkit and the importance of standardisation and manufacturer-specific content. In case you missed it, recently Space Group CEO Rob shared the background on bimstore and his thoughts on why we’re proud to support manufacturer content.

After a short break Adam gave some insights to the group on what the future holds for bimstore, including updates and features that will be available over the next year. Unfortunately some of this is top secret and as much as we’d like to share these exciting developments with you, for the time being, our lips have to remain firmly sealed. You’ll just have to make sure you keep up to date with all the bimstore news on our website and social media channels!

Supporting our manufacturers and keeping them informed of bimstore’s progress and future plans is of great importance to us. We are proud to only support manufacturer’s content.

bimstore believe the people who know the most about a given product is the organisation who manufacturers it” Rob Charlton wrote last month “A generic specification is just that, generic. It's useful when developing an initial requirement but soon you need to deliver the building performance and you will need accurate information for this”

“We will continue to build our library of quality BIM components with manufacturers, so that the best design can be delivered by the best people”.
